On the afternoon of October 23rd, in Gia Lai, the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, in collaboration with the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment and the National Council for Agricultural and Medicinal Plant Development, organized the forum "Promoting the Development of High-Tech Agriculture and Medicinal Plants in the Central Highlands." The forum provided an opportunity for managers, experts, and businesses to exchange solutions for exploiting regional advantages, enhancing the value of agricultural products, and developing the medicinal plant industry sustainably.
Leveraging advantages and removing bottlenecks.
With approximately 2.67 million hectares of arable land, the Central Highlands is a major producer of key agricultural products in the country, such as coffee, pepper, avocado, passion fruit, and durian. Besides these high-value crops, medicinal plants are also identified as a promising sector due to their unique climate, soil conditions, and ecosystem.
According to statistics from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the area of medicinal plants in the three provinces of Dak Lak , Gia Lai, and Lam Dong currently reaches approximately 6,168 hectares. However, production scale remains fragmented and small-scale; the links between growers, businesses, and related units are not strong, making it difficult to build concentrated raw material areas that meet market standards.
